UK set for wet, windy weekend and -2C frosts as clocks go forward

Britain faces a changeable weekend as the clocks spring forward, with winds, rain and pockets of freezing temperatures arriving as Daylight Saving Time begins.

Saturday will feel mostly settled for many people, with spells of sunshine broken by showers.

The wettest activity is expected in the far north‑west, while daytime highs could reach about 13C in some areas. After dark on Saturday, rural parts of England are likely to see temperatures fall to around -2C, bringing the risk of frost on local roads and gardens.

Sunday turns more unsettled as a new weather system pushes in from the north‑west, spreading wind and rain across the country.

Cooler air will linger further north, making Scotland the chilliest region. Rural locations elsewhere could again dip to about -2C overnight into Sunday, and the Met Office warned of gusty winds plus the potential for frost and icy patches in places.

Forecasters described the sudden chill as a bit of a shock to the system.

The clock change happens at 1am on March 29, when the UK switches to British Summer Time. Mornings will feel darker at first, but daylight will lengthen steadily toward the summer solstice on June 21, with the far north seeing roughly 19 hours of daylight at peak.

A milder spell is expected to build in by Monday night, offering a welcome break after a wet winter — southern England recorded its seventh‑wettest winter on record up to February 25, according to Met Office figures.
