A striking triangular formation spotted in a vast Martian canyon has reignited questions about whether the Red Planet might once have hosted built structures.

Filmmaker Brian Dodds recently circulated images of the feature in Candor Chasma, part of the enormous Valles Marineris system, and suggested it rivals the size of Egypt’s Great Pyramid.

He cautions that the photos are not proof of past life, but says they warrant closer scrutiny. Valles Marineris is one of Mars’ largest canyon networks, stretching nearly a quarter of the planet’s circumference.

Scientists believe the chasm system formed through rifting and was later widened by erosion and collapsing rock faces.

NASA spacecraft reportedly photographed the triangular feature on four separate passes between 2001 and 2016. Observers note that its three‑sided symmetry appears in images taken under different lighting and seasonal conditions.

Mars researcher George Haas has voiced support for the idea that the formation looks unusually geometric, arguing it appears more sculpted than naturally random.

Others remain skeptical and stress that geology can produce surprising regularity. Adding to the controversy, intelligence files released in 2025 describe project work aimed at collecting information about Mars.

Former CIA officer Joe McMoneagle has claimed the agency investigated multiple pyramid‑like sites on the planet, including one he said contained large interior chambers.

Extraordinary claims aside, scientists emphasize that remote imagery alone cannot settle whether the feature is a natural rock formation or something manufactured. Definitive answers would require a targeted mission to inspect the site on the ground.

For now, the images have simply revived public fascination and renewed debate among researchers, enthusiasts, and former intelligence officials about what secrets Mars might still hide.
