Buckingham Palace rejects Trump's suggestion King Charles would oppose UK over Iran
RSS News

Buckingham Palace has pushed back against comments from US President Donald Trump suggesting King Charles would take a different line from the British government on the war in Iran.

Trump told The Telegraph he viewed the monarch as a courageous figure who had endured much, and said he believed the King would have adopted a stance unlike that of the UK administration.

He contrasted that view with the position of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The Palace responded by underlining that the sovereign must remain politically neutral and does not involve himself in party or government disputes.

Officials framed the reply as a reminder of the constitutional role the King plays.

The exchange comes ahead of King Charles’s planned state visit to the United States later this month, an event already drawing close attention from both media and political observers. Both Trump’s remarks and the Palace’s brief rebuttal highlight the sensitivity around comments that could be read as pulling the monarch into political debate.
