Jerry Leach, a 32-year-old country musician, has died after being trapped beneath a vehicle outside his New Jersey home.

According to authorities, Leach was found on March 10 pinned under the rear tire of the car.

Police and nearby residents attempted to lift the vehicle to free him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Leach's band announced his death on Instagram, sharing photos and a heartfelt tribute.

They described him as more than a bassist — a close friend who stepped in when the group needed a player, learned dozens of songs quickly, and hit the road with them for early out-of-state shows.

The band recalled how Leach repeatedly said he just wanted to help, and how his dedication helped the group grow. Over roughly four years and some 300 performances, they said his songwriting and distinctive bass playing became an integral part of their sound.

In their statement the band said the coming months will be difficult but vowed to continue performing as a way to honor Leach's wish that the group succeed.

They added that his presence will be felt at future shows and rehearsals. Fans and friends flooded the post with condolences, offering support to the band and Leach's family as they mourn the loss of a young musician who played a key role in the group's rise.
