Meghan's latest PR blunder as she risks upsetting Scots with 'England' mistake | Royal | News

Meghan Markle could have upset some people north of the border after claiming that one of her favourite sweet snacks from Scotland reminds her of England. Prior to the products going on sale on asever.com yesterday, Meghan released a newsletter to her fans talking about the products that they can expect to be on sale later that day.

As well as raspberry jam and tea, As Ever also stocked shortbread - which originated in Scotland in the 12th century. For Meghan, who previously lived in the UK with Prince Harry, the sweet treat reminds her of her "time in England".

She wrote: "Crunchy and delicious shortbread cookies that remind me of my time in England, with tiny flower sprinkles to add extra beauty and charm to enjoy each delicate bite."

The comment made by Meghan is sure to raise some eyebrows amongst Scots, with the late Queen Elizabeth II also said to be a fan of shortbread.

Named for its crumbly texture, shortbread is made from one part white sugar, two parts butter, and three to four parts plain wheat flour. It has also been described as the "the jewel in the crown" of Scottish baking.

Meghan has recently spoke of other food and drink items that remind her of a former part of her life - particularly her childhood.

In her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which aired last month, the 43-year-old made sun tea - which she said she remembers making as a young child.

As Ever, with all products selling out within the first hour of being on sale, also sold hibiscus tea - which Meghan claims reminds her of "the sun tea I made in my childhood".

The fruit spreads, also sold on asever.com, reminded her of "years of recipe testing", whilst the crepe mix had been "inspired by my time visiting France as a student".

Speaking of what inspired her brand, which was previously going to be named American Riviera Orchard, Meghan said: "When I think of the things I look forward to the most, I usually find them in the unexpected, in the thoughtful gesture, in the small details that show care... those small yet meaningful moments of connection are where we can all find the magic in the everyday."
