Aldi UK store opening times for May bank holiday confirmed

May is bookended by two bank holidays which means a disruption to normal routines for most people.

The bank holidays fall on Monday, May 5 and Monday, May 26, so most UK workers will be in line for two extra long weekends this month. But supermarkets aren’t legally required to close on bank holidays which means most retail workers will be heading to work as normal on Monday. While there is no legal requirement for shops to close on bank holidays, supermarkets can choose to do so, or may operate on reduced opening hours in some cases - often due to reduced staff availability. Aldi has now confirmed its opening times for the upcoming May bank holiday on Monday 5 in a message to shoppers.

The budget supermarket has said its normal opening hours will remain in place across its UK stores over the weekend, but stores in England and Wales will close slightly earlier than usual on bank holiday Monday at 8pm. In Scotland, the usual closing time of 10pm will remain in place on the bank holiday.

Aldi has said its opening times may vary across its stores so customers should check their local supermarket hours on its website before visiting.

The confirmed opening hours for UK Aldi stores over the May bank holiday weekend are as follows:

  • Saturday, May 3 - 8am - 10pm
  • Sunday, May 4 -10am - 4pm
  • Monday, May 5 - 8am - 8pm (England and Wales) / 8am - 10pm (Scotland)

In a message to shoppers, the retailer said: “Standard opening hours will remain in place at Aldi’s stores across the UK on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May.

“Stores in England and Wales will then be open until 8pm on Monday 5th May, while in Scotland stores will close at 10pm as normal.

“The opening times of some stores may vary, so customers should check their local store on Aldi’s website before making their journey.

“The UK’s cheapest supermarket has everything shoppers need for an amazing May Bank Holiday, whatever the weather. Whether it’s for a BBQ or long weekend away, Aldi shoppers can enjoy everything from its range of British meat, vegetarian and vegan options, as well as sides, sweet treats and a wide selection of drinks, at unbeatable prices.”
