Foreign Secretary David Lammy has announced plans to strengthen ties between Britain and the Philippines, and said both countries are committed to a "rules-based" international order, including support for Ukraine.

During a press conference with his Philippine counterpart this morning, Lammy said a joint framework had been signed to enhance cooperation between the two countries on defence, regional security and climate action.

"Today, we're charting a new course for our relationship amidst a lot of global volatility, and we must strengthen ties with like minded partners, like the Philippines," the British minister said.

"We are countries that are committed to international law. We are countries that are committed to the rules-based order. We are countries that take our obligations under the UN Charter seriously," he added.
