How to look younger by avoiding 1 hair colour

Blonde hair has long been celebrated for its timeless beauty, but over the years, different shades and techniques can make a huge difference in how hair complements a changing complexion.

Jason Collier, renowned stylist to celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, and Sienna Miller, shared his expert advice on the best blonde shades for mature women and which ones to avoid.

“As women embrace the natural changes that come with time, selecting the right shade of blonde can enhance your features and complement evolving skin tones,” says Jason, who is a Key Opinion Leader for Jerome Russell Bblonde.

For mature women, Jason recommends going for warmer blonde shades such as honey, caramel, or golden tones as they can provide a “youthful glow” and “soften facial features”, giving the skin a fresher, more vibrant appearance.

“Warmer blonde tones, such as honey or golden blondes, can add a glow and warmth that makes the face look more radiant,” he explained.

On the other hand, Jason advised against certain shades that may not be as flattering for mature women.

“While platinum and icy blondes are head-turning, they can also be harsh on skin, especially if your undertones are warm,” warned Jason.

“These shades can emphasise redness, fine lines, and make your complexion look dull.”

If you’re drawn to cooler tones, he suggests opting for a softer champagne blonde or mixing ash and warm highlights for a more balanced effect.

He also cautions against opting for ashy blondes that can appear flat and grey, unintentionally ageing the face.

“Ashy blondes can sometimes make hair look lifeless, and they can strip the natural vibrancy from the complexion,” said Jason.

Instead of an ultra-ashy shade, try incorporating a mix of warm and cool tones to maintain depth and dimension.

Using specific techniques like highlights or balayage can improve the hair’s dimension and movement.

"Strategically placed lighter strands can create the illusion of volume and depth, which is particularly beneficial for hair that may have thinned over time," he added.

These techniques provide a youthful finish and offer a low-maintenance option, as they blend naturally with grey strands and reduce the need for frequent touch-ups.
