Gerwyn Price snaps with x-rated response to whistling fan in tense darts semi-final | Other | Sport

Gerwyn Price lost his cool with a heckling darts fan and delivered a sweary rant during his defeat to Luke Humphries in the Premier League Darts on Thursday night.

The 39-year-old had beaten Nathan Aspinall to reach the semi-finals on the second night of Premier League action, but things quickly turned sour for the Cardiff man.

Known as 'The Iceman' in these quarters, Price went from being calm and composed to furious in a matter of seconds after being distracted by a noisy fan. Faced with a crucial throw in the third set, Price missed darts on a double 12 and then a double six - prompting some whistles to emanate from the crowd.

One person in particular seemed to get under the darts star's skin throughout the match and the noise was picked up by Sky Sports' microphones, meaning it was audible for those watching at home. A seething Price snapped at one point and appeared to mouth back 'f*** off' to the trolling fan as tensions threatened to boil over in Glasgow.

The Welshman also hit back with a celebration aimed at the disruptive crowd, putting his fingers to his mouth and imitating a taxi whistle when he took the 3-2 lead against Humphries.

Former champion Mark Webster sympathised with Price and said on Sky Sports' commentary: "Whistling is something which grates with the players."

His response prompted cheers from those inside the OVO Hydro arena, while he shared a high-five with his opponent. But Price was denied the last laugh after bowing out to the world No.1.

The incident appeared to impact his mindset at a crucial point in the match as Price led 4-2 at one stage. However, Humphries found his way back into the tie with some stunning throws and won the remaining four legs.

'Cool Hand' secured two finishes above 100 and also landed back-to-back 180s, leaving the frustrated Price feeling somewhat helpless as he watched his lead evaporate.

Humphries took out 99 for the match on double 18 to clinch a 6-4 victory and set up a mouthwatering clash with Luke Littler in the final.

It would represent their first meeting of any kind since Humphries triumphed 11-7 at the Players Championship in November 2024.

Price, meanwhile, would be left reflecting on where it went wrong for him after being in a commanding position before the whistles threw him off course.
