Remove grime and cut through grease with 'powerful' DIY cleaning solution

Commercial cleaners are a staple in every household, but it’s possible for you to make your own natural multi-purpose cleaner with items you already have in your homes. You can even use leftover food scraps that can be repurposed, so there’s no need for additional food waste.

Cleaning fan and TikToker Chantel Mila revealed her easy recipe for a multi-purpose cleaner that can be used all over your home. All you need is a few ingredients from your store cupboard and fridge, and it takes minutes to make. This is what you’ll need.

How to make your own multi-purpose cleaner

To make this concoction, Chantel instructed: “Mix equal parts water and white vinegar, then add lemon peels and rosemary. Leave this to infuse for two weeks, then strain it into a bottle.

“This mix is powerful at removing grime, grease, and leaves your home smelling amazing.”

Chantel urged fellow cleaning fans to avoid throwing away lemon peels, writing in the caption: “Don’t throw away your lemon peels until you try this easy multipurpose cleaner if you love lower tox cleaning, but hate the smell of vinegar, this one is for you! By infusing the lemons in white vinegar for 2 weeks it reduces the smell.”

Adding white vinegar to your cleaning solution is helpful due to its level of acidity - as well its acetic acid content - helps dissolve any dirt, grease and grime. It can also help to kill bacteria on surfaces. The Spruce noted that distilled white vinegar and cleaning vinegar are great options for deep cleaning.

Acetic acid helps to dissolve various mineral build-ups, including limescale deposits. It also helps to kill bacteria and fungi that cause bad and unwanted smells as vinegar is a natural deodoriser.

Another benefit of vinegar is that it’s a natural disinfectant, which helps to effectively remove built-up grime. On the other hand, lemon also has dual cleaning properties, helping to remove unwanted odours, as well as providing citric acid to cut through bacteria.

It also acts as a natural antibacterial, antiseptic, and bleaching agent, helping to cut through grease, remove stains, and kill bacteria, making them a versatile eco-friendly alternative to commercial cleaning products.

Citric acid in lemons is naturally antibacterial and antiseptic, meaning it can kill bacteria and prevent the growth of microorganisms. Lemons can also help cover up any smells too, as does the rosemary.

It wasn’t just Chantel who praised the multipurpose cleaner, with viewer Rose saying: “I save every single and reuse in so many things.”

Ashley agreed: “This is such a great idea! I love using natural cleaners and this one sounds perfect. Definitely going to try it out!”
