UK households with driveways urged to make ‘easy’ £300 a month

British households with driveways could earn hundreds of pounds per month by hiring out their land as parking spaces. Car industry expert Kazimieras Urbonas, Supplier Excellence Manager at Ovoko, has advised that those not hiring out their driveways were missing out on simple passive income.

Drivers can simply list their driveway as being available to rent through dedicated platforms such as JustPark or YourParkingSpace. After uploading a brief description and a few photos, listings will become live in just a matter of minutes. Households can make their spaces available for just a few hours whenever is convenient, or decide to welcome extended stays for extra money.

Urbonas said: “It’s safe to say most people aren’t aware their empty driveway could be earning them money while they're at work or even while they sleep. It's one of those opportunities that's been hiding in plain sight.”

“It's incredibly straightforward. You simply create a listing with photos of your driveway, set your hourly or daily rates, and wait for bookings to roll in. The platforms handle all the payments and insurance, so there's very little work involved once you're set up.”

Those living next to popular tourist destinations, near major attractions such as sports stadiums, are among those who could gain the most.

Households situated close to airports, near hospitals and around the corner from universities are also among the most profitable locations, with Ovoko claiming some could earn £300 per month.

Urbonas adds that those with spaces next to transport hubs, such as train stations, could also massively benefit from regular trade.

He explained: “Homes within walking distance of train stations are absolute goldmines. Commuters are happy to pay £5-15 per day for convenient parking, especially when station car parks charge much more or are constantly full.”

However, Money Saving Expert has previously warned that those renting a house with a driveway cannot just start without seeking permission from the landlord.

Money Saving Expert explained: “If you rent rather than own the property, it’s best to check the terms of your tenancy agreement before renting out your space, and get the landlord’s permission in writing.

“Similarly, if you've leasehold rather than freehold ownership of the property, check the terms of your lease.”
