A "marvellous" period drama has been added to Amazon Prime Video, and many people have never seen it. Amazon Prime Video added a slew of new titles in recent weeks, including famous movies and shows that fans have been eagerly waiting for. However, other things often get overlooked when such popular content is added to streaming platforms, which may well be the case with one of Amazon Prime's latest additions.

A Quiet Passion was added to Amazon Prime Video on July 5 and has gone largely unnoticed by subscribers. In fact, the movie wasn't spoken about much when it first came out in 2016, but it was raved about by film critics. The film has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 92 per cent. Critics praised this movie for its stellar performances and its storyline, which is based on the real-life of one of the most famous literary greats in modern history.

A Quiet Passion follows the story of American writer Emily Dickinson as she remains closely tied to her family while becoming a successful and famous poet.

The true story of Emily Dickinson is fascinating, as much of her work was only recognised after she died in 1886. Taking on the lead role is Cynthia Nixon, who fans will recognise from Sex and the City, in which she played Miranda.

While critical reviews of this film were overwhelmingly good, audience reviews were mixed. Some criticised the film for moving too slowly, but others praised it as a gripping and well-told story.

One person said: "A marvellous meditation on Emily Dickinson, a labour of love. Perhaps people who are not literature or poetry lovers will grasp the beauty and candour of this film. It honours so much of her spirit."

Another said: "A beautifully made, finely acted biographical movie about the great poet Emily Dickinson. Cynthia Nixon's portral of Dickinson is a masterclass."

A third added: "Cynthia Nixon delivers an outstanding performance in this biopic of poet Emily Dickinson. Director Terence Davies is flawless in his presentation of her, she is given to us without judgment. Dickinson is smart, progressive and a dynamic wordsmith but also can be condescending and cruel... but authentic."

As well as A Quiet Passion, Amazon Prime Video added a number of highly-rated movies to its platform recently. They include Top Gun, Bumble Bee, The Invisible Man and Sing Street.
