The 'amazing' orange sorbet recipe that's 'perfect after a rich meal'

A dessert that is both refreshing and delicious is what everyone needs, especially with the heatwaves that have been hitting the nation - and this recipe for a easy zesty orange sorbet provides exactly that. In just five minutes you can make yourself a lovely summer treat that the whole family will enjoy.

BBC Good Food writes: "This simple, zesty dessert or palate cleanser is perfect after a rich meal". The recipe has a five-star rating and has been described as "amazing", "so tasty", and coming out as the "smoothest". Lou-la-belle wrote: "Oh my but this is simply delicious. I made this without the ice-cream churner - no bother. Don't be tempted to skimp on the star anise because it adds a devine depth to the taste." It was certainly a winner in this household, as skatingjulie shared that they'll have to make more in next time.

Commenting on the recipe, they wrote: "Easy, delicious and far superior to any in the shops. This was a definite hit in our house, although I shall double the quantities in future as it disappeared very quickly.

Those that do not have an ice-maker don't have to miss out, as the sorbet can also be made without one, and another sorbet-lover confirmed that is it just as easy.

"Such a snap to make, either in an ice cream maker or by breaking up the ice crystals by hand," vegetarina wrote.

Echoing the recipe's simplicity, ccs1233 said: "Very easy to make even without an ice cream maker! Went down a treat and tasted great. I whisked it every half hour for 5 hours after putting it in the freezer."

Ingredients for Orange Sorbet:

  • 300ml orange juice
  • 2 star anise
  • 100g caster sugar

Method:

Put the orange juice, star anise and sugar into a pan. Bring to the boil, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved, then remove the star anise. Cool, then pour into an ice-cream machine and churn until smooth and frozen. (If you don’t have an ice-cream machine, cool the mixture, then tip into a freezerproof container and freeze until firm, whisking every hour with a fork to break up the ice crystals.)
