Before becoming Clark Kent, David Corenswet featured in a highly praised police drama that's currently available for streaming.

The 32-year-old performer is already garnering acclaim for his depiction of the Man of Steel in James Gunn's Superman, now showing in cinemas.

However, audiences flocking to see the superhero blockbuster might be unaware of Corenswet's contribution to HBO's We Own This City. Penned by David Simon, the mastermind behind The Wire, this limited series explores the corrupt depths of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force.

The synopsis states: "Based on the book 'We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption' by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, this gritty drama chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force.

"It exposes the corruption and moral collapse that befalls an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest are championed at the expense of actual police work," reports <a href="https://www.themirror.com/entertainment/tv/city-hbo-streaming-1260980" rel="Follow" target="_self">the Mirror US</a>.

Currently streaming on NOW TV, the series showcases Corenswet as an experienced Narcotics Task Force detective.

The supporting ensemble is equally remarkable, featuring The Bear's Jon Bernthal, Sinners actress Wunmi Mosaku, The Wire veteran Jamie Hector and The Departed's Larry Mitchell in leading parts.

Much like The Wire, We Own This City has garnered universal praise. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes bestowed the six-episode series an outstanding 93 per cent rating.
