Kate Middleton's diet and eating habits are often a hot topic for Royal Family fans, particularly because of her wholesome food choices. The Princess has been vocal about her love for nutritious superfoods, including one rather unusual summer berry.

HELLO Magazine previously examined the future Queen's kitchen preferences and spotlighted a 'favourite' snack of the mother-of-three. It seems she tries to avoid processed treats in favour of healthier options like fresh fruit and vegetables, with goji berries being a particular favourite.

This exotic fruit hails from China and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways - raw, dried or cooked. Some choose to blitz this powerful superfood into smoothies, combining it with other tasty fruits and veggies for an extra health kick.

A packet of dried goji berries can be purchased from Asda for £1.86. The 100g pack offers three servings, which is roughly 62p per 33g portion. Tesco sells the same pack size for £2 as does Sainsburys (£2 for 100g) and Ocado (also £2 for 100g), reports Cambridgeshire Live.

If you're dedicated to a summer health kick and fancy a change from the usual supermarket fruit selection, goji berries could be just the ticket. With their unique sweet and sour flavour, these berries stand apart from the crowd and are brimming with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids.

Now could be an ideal time to test out the fruit if you've been a bit on the fence about trying it. Goji berries are typically at their finest during summer months owing to their growing cycle, which usually reaches its peak from late summer through to autumn.

These berries flourish in hot environments, with summer weather helping them achieve this. Under such conditions, they produce their highest-quality fruit. The superfruit is celebrated for allegedly slowing down the ageing process and supporting healthy vision.

Research from 2021 found that consistent goji berry consumption during middle age might help lower the chances of developing age-related macular degeneration. These crimson berries contain abundant antioxidants that combat oxidative stress, shield against cellular harm, and prevent premature skin ageing.

According to Healthline, these nutrient-dense fruits serve as a superb source of iron, an essential mineral crucial for transporting oxygen and manufacturing red blood cells. Goji berries support cardiovascular wellness and could help lower cholesterol.

A BBC Good Food expert said: "Long-term consumption of goji berries has been shown to decrease LDL cholesterol and help in the prevention of cardiovascular disease." The report cites a study suggesting that the polysaccharides in goji berries could potentially regulate blood pressure and reduce harmful cholesterol, offering further heart protection.

However, these berries may not be suitable for everyone, as they can interact negatively with anticoagulant and diabetic medications. Those who choose to indulge in this Asian superfood should be mindful of potential side effects, including allergic reactions.

Some people might experience stomach discomfort, especially when consumed in large quantities. As a dried fruit high in sugars, it's prudent for those managing blood sugar levels to consume it sparingly.

It's always best to consult your doctor before making significant dietary changes. They can offer tailored advice based on your health status and highlight any potential risks you may not have considered, including how any medications you're taking might interact with new foods.
