After months of rumours and endless speculation we now finally know Samsung's plans for the future of its foldables. The Korean firm has just showcased its all-new Z Fold and Z Flip call makers at an Unpacked event in New York and they are massive upgrades over what has been released before.

The most striking change comes to the latest Z Fold 7. The dramatic makeover makes its design way easier to pop in pockets and finally give Android users a tempting reason to try it.

It's now so skinny that, when folded, it's actually thinner than its Galaxy S25 Ultra cousin. Open things up, and the 8-inch tablet-style AMOLED screen is just 4.2mm thick.

To ensure that it stays in box-fresh condition, Samsung has made things far more robust. The Fold 7 is now covered in tough Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 and gets an Advanced Armour Aluminium frame and Armour FlexHinge. It's also protected against water dust so there's no worries when texting in the usual British rain.

Samsung also says that it has restructured the main 8-inch display to be thinner, lighter and stronger. This was achieved by implementing a Titanium plate layer to stop things from bending and breaking.

Despite its wafer-thin appearance, the Fold 7 should be supremely powerful thanks to it packing the hugely impressive Snapdragon 8 Elite chip under its shell which delivers a performance boost of up to 41 percent.

That means everything from app launching, multitasking, gaming and productivity will see a boost in speed.

Other bonus extras on the device include a more useful 6.5-inch cover screen that's now slightly wider than before (something Samsung was criticised for not featuring on previous models).

It also gets an improved triple-lens camera with main 200MP lens that can shoot better images and video at night.

Of course, like all new phones, it also comes with plenty of smart AI upgrades including access to Google Gemini and features such as Circle to Search, auto image editing and an audio eraser which gets rid of unwanted noise in your videos.

It will be available in numerous colours and storage options with things starting from a hefty £1,799.

The Z Fold 7 looks hugely impressive and could finally make these gadgets seem far more appealing.

However, it's not the only new device arriving from Samsung.

Along with that foldable, there's also a new Z Flip 7 coming soon as well. This flippable device arrives with a more expansive front 4.1-inch FlexWindow display, which makes it easier to reply to messages and play games without flipping open the main 6.9-inch panel.

It also gets a bigger 4,300mAh battery, improved design that's more robust and some extra power thanks to Samsung's Exynos chip inside.

The dual-lens cameras can shoot some impressive snaps thanks to the 50MP Wide and a 12MP Ultra-Wide lenses.

It will cost £1,049 when it goes on sale.

Finally, Samsung is introducing a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE which makes owning a new bendy call maker a little more affordable. It's not quite as feature-packed as its siblings and doesn't get the improved cover screen but it only costs £849.

“We’re entering into a new era of smartphone innovation. As AI becomes the new UI, people need devices that learn, understand and anticipates their needs,” said Annika Bizon, Mobile Experience VP of Product and Marketing, Samsung UK & Ireland. “The new Galaxy Z Fold7 combines powerful hardware with Galaxy AI in an ultra thin and ultra sleek form factor – supporting people to get things done in previously unimaginable ways.”
