Roast potatoes will be the crispiest if you cook them one particular way, with a single trick that gives them an edge. An expert cook has shared their step-by-step guide to making the best roast potatoes, and it doesn't involve a huge amount of complicated ingredients. In fact, it uses very little, simply making the most of the technique to create the most delicious roast potatoes. The technique was shared on YouTube, and viewers who tried it said they had the "best potatoes" they've ever eaten as a result.

Roast potatoes are a staple in many British meals, namely a Sunday roast. But there are many ways we can enjoy roast potatoes all year round, whether it's at a summer BBQ or a Christmas dinner. Many households have their go-to recipes and methods for making the very best roast potatoes but one person has shared their ultimate way of creating this classic British dish. YouTuber Pinch of Mint shared his "perfect" roast potato recipe and said that they come out the "crispiest" every time. "This recipe guarantees the crispiest, fluffiest roasties you’ve ever tasted," he revealed.

To start, he cuts his potatoes in half and places them in a pot. Then, he adds baking soda (specifying that it is not baking powder) and some salt. The trick is to add water and turn the heat all the way up.

As soon as the water starts to boil, he brings the heat down to its lowest setting and lets it just simmer for between 20 and 25 minutes. Doing this means that they will cook through completely without parts of the potatoes getting too soft before they are roasted.

Then, he drains them. You might normally rough up your potatoes, but the bicarbonate soda has already created a flaky exterior, so there is no need for this step in this recipe. When it comes to roasting, he preheats the oven to 180C (fan).

On a baking tray, he adds 100 grams of goose fat and allows that to heat in the oven. Once it's hot, he says you should place your potatoes into the fat and roll them around until they are evenly coated, leaving plenty of space between each potato.

The potatoes then cook in the oven for 45 minutes. They should be turned every 15 minutes and make sure they get recoated in the oil. He also makes a rosemary and thyme sea salt seasoning for the potatoes, which is, of course, optional.

People who tried the recipe had amazing things to say about it. "Made these for the first time and everyone said they were the best potatoes they've ever had," said one comment.

Another reads: "This roast potatoes recipe is absolutely amazing! The secret technique you shared gives these potatoes an incredible and lasting flavour. The final result was surprisingly delicious and crispy."
