Jamal Musiala suffered a horror injury during Bayern Munich's Club World Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder looked in agony and had to be stretchered off at half-time following a gruesome collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

In the dying embers of the first half, with the score locked at 0-0, Musiala pressured Willian Pacho inside the box as the PSG defender held him off so Donnarumma could collect. But he inadvertently trapped Musiala as he rushed onto the ball, and the Germany international's left leg clicked into a sickening position as he clattered to the ground in agony.

Donnarumma won the 50-50 ball, so English referee Anthony Taylor did not award a penalty. Instead, he blew the whistle for half-time as medics got to work on the goalline.

The PSG stopper looked visibly devastated over the accident and appeared to be in tears while walking towards the tunnel.

Musiala's Bayern teammates also could not hide their fear over the incident as he cried out in pain on the turf at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

DAZN commentators confirmed that Musiala had been taken to a local medical facility after being stretchered off the pitch.

The Bayern No. 42 was pulling the strings as the Bundesliga champions looked the most menacing of the two sides in the first half.

He completed 92 per cent of his passes and won four of his six duels in the Germans' attempts to knock off the Champions League winners for a spot in the semi-finals.

PSG progressed to the semi-finals with a 2-0 win, courtesy of Desire Doue's 78th-minute opener before Ousmane Dembele wrapped it up at the death.

The second half boiled over into chaos once Luis Enrique's side took the lead, with defensive duo Pacho and Lucas Hernandez leaving the Parisiens with nine men.

Bayern could not profit, though, before Dembele put the result out of doubt in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

The Allianz Arena outfit thought they had a late penalty that would have only been a consolation, but a VAR review overturned Taylor's initial decision.

After full-time, PSG sent Musiala their well wishes, posting on X: "Paris Saint-Germain extends its sincerest wishes for a swift and full recovery to Jamal Musiala."

Musiala's injury comes as a monumental blow for Bayern manager Vincent Kompany, who missed out on top target Florian Wirtz earlier in the summer.

Wirtz snubbed Bayer Leverkusen's rivals to complete a £116million switch to Liverpool, leaving Kompany searching for alternatives.

And the Belgian coach now looks to have lost one of the staples of his team for an extended period, with the 2025/26 season just over a month away.

Bayern have been linked with Liverpool winger Luis Diaz and wantaway Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford in recent days.

The Bavarian giants will likely fast-track their attempts to bolster Kompany's attacking firepower in the wake of Musiala's heart-wrenching setback.

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann will be among those sweating over the midfielder's fitness as the United States also prepares to host the World Cup next year.
