If you’re the sort of person who likes to look cute when you arrive at your destination airport, you’re definitely not alone.

There’s nothing quite like loving the outfit you’re in – and with ‘airport outfits’ appearing on most high-street fashion websites, it’s clear to see that the matching loungewear or cute shorts you want are bang on trend.

But one flight attendant has warned that there are certain items you want to avoid, saying that she’s “seen it all” during her career.

“Your outfit might be cute at the gate, but at 38,000 feet? Not so much. Here’s what I’d never fly in and why,” @sillerydell penned as part of her caption.

1. Shorts or crop tops

Shorts and crop tops may look adorable when you’re in the queue waiting for your flight, but she warned that the “wrath of AC on bare thighs or naked belly” is too much, so it’s best to keep as covered up as possible.

Some people have even been stopped from boarding for wearing clothing that's deemed too revealing.

2. Flip flops

These sandals offer no support and could end up wreaking havoc during emergency situations. The cabin crew member shared: “Fine for the beach, not for running to your gate or emergency landings."

And there's another footwear no-no people make. She added: "Plus, I know you will take them off during the flight and walk barefoot."

This is grim when you think some people go to the unsanitary toilets without shoes, or sometimes socks, on.

3. Polyester and synthetic materials

The flight attendant said you should aim to wear “breathable fabrics” like cotton. This means that “when the cabin temperature fluctuates,” you don’t get too hot or too cold quickly.

Additionally, in the unlikely event of an emergency, synthetic fabrics can be more flammable and may melt onto the skin if exposed to high heat.

That polyester two piece may look adorable, but it’s probably best to avoid, just in case.

4. Tights

The flight attendant warned that tights will also be extremely flammable, and may “burn into your skin”, especially because of how tight to your leg they are.

While an emergency of this sort is thankfully highly unlikely, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

5. Tight, non-stretchy clothes

Yes, your brand-new pair of jeans might be absolutely perfect for a hot-girl walk with your friends, but if you’re sitting down for hours, are they really the best option?

The flight attendant warned: “Your body bloats in the air. What feels snug on the ground might feel like a corset in the sky”.

To conclude, she said it’s important to “choose comfort, safety, and layers you can easily remove or add”.

For example, it’s a good idea to have a hoodie to hand when travelling to and from your destination, as it can get very cold on the plane, and you’ll thank yourself when you’re landing back in the UK - especially if it’s at nighttime.

Someone argued: “See nothing wrong with shorts in the summer especially if you’re going to a country that’s 30+degrees and you’ve got a full day sight seeing before you get to accommodation”.

Flight attendant @sillerydell responded: “So if you’re going to a warm destination you wouldn’t mind being cold for your entire 12 hour flight?”

Meanwhile, another admitted: “I do not get people with open shoes on a plane."
