Cameron Norrie notched a big win over 12th seed Frances Tiafoe to book his spot in the Wimbledon third round. The British No.3, who made the semi-finals in 2022, gave Tiafoe a gruelling workout during a comeback victory which captivated spectators on Court 1 and saw another big seed fall.

Norrie closed out the show after Tiafoe faced criticism from BBC commentators John Lloyd and Andrew Castle. The pair felt it was 'absolutely ridiculous' and 'unfair' on Norrie that Tiafoe opted to take a long bathroom break at the end of the third set, when the home favourite's momentum was building.

But Norrie didn't let the interruption throw him off course as he put together three barnstorming sets to come through 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-5.

The early signs were positive for the Brit, who unleashed three unreturned serves during an opening hold to love. Once the pattern of the match was established, it was clear that Court 1 spectators were in for a treat as Tiafoe wheeled out drop shots and lobs, and Norris showed himself to be a hard man to get past.

A miscued Norrie smash opened an opportunity for Tiafoe to break at 2-2, and the American converted before holding out to take a deserved first set. In response, Norrie remained calm and set about his way back.

The 29-year-old began asking more questions of the Tiafoe serve, and with the crowd firmly behind him - albeit with many Tiafoe supporters also in attendance - he held serve all the way up to 5-4 before notching a vital break to level the match.

The third set was even more successful for Britain’s third-ranked male player. The first break was under Norrie’s belt early on, going 3-1 up after Tiafoe overcooked a shot headed for the baseline. Tiafoe broke straight back but from three apiece it was all Norrie as he delighted the crowd with his pinpoint serving and clinched a trio of games on the trot.

Tiafoe’s controversial bathroom break followed, but Norrie put the world No.12 under pressure against the serve immediately. The break did not come until Norrie made it 4-3, and although Tiafoe broke straight back, there was another break for the Brit at 6-5 and he served out for the match.

"I think we both played to a really high level," said Norrie. "I just played so calm. I was enjoying the battle. It's really nice to play Frances in a big match at Wimbledon and I was really happy with my level."
