Staying cool in the UK during a heatwave can be a tricky task with the latest heatwave expected to push temperatures close to record levels for June. Temperatures in southern England tomorrow, Monday June 30, are predicted to hit a scorching 34C, this would make it the hottest day of the year so far.

Amber heat alerts remain in place until Tuesday evening for all of southern, western and eastern England with a warning of excess deaths particularly among those over 65. With the mercury soaring it can be difficult to get a night's rest during sweltering conditions, overnight temperatures in southern England will be a stuffy 20C. 

Those unable to have a good sleep tonight may be tempted to reach for the caffeine tomorrow but this could make you feel even worse.

Drinking caffeine during a heatwave can also exacerbate dehydration due to its diuretic effect. Caffeine can also increase heart rate and blood pressure, which could be detrimental in hot conditions.

It can also disrupt temperature regulation, which may raise the risk of heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

Instead Brits should switch their coffee for a refreshing smoothie or a glass of water.
