A warning has been issued by the government's Food Standards Agency about a diet supplement currently being sold on Amazon which has been recalled by the manufacturer due to the presence of Salmonella.

The bug, often found in unvaccinated eggs, can cause fever, sickness and diarrhoea.

Amazon shoppers in the UK are being told not to eat diet supplement Eggshell Membrane Capsules by manufacturer Orgenism, sold via Amazon, after Salmonella was found in it.

The Food Standards Agency said: “Orgenism is recalling Eggshell Membrane Capsules sold on Amazon because Salmonella has been found in the product.

“Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

"Orgenism is recalling the above product. A point of sale notice will be displayed on their website. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

“If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, email team@orgenism.com for a free pre-paid returns envelope and a full refund.”

The recall applies to ALL batch codes in the 500mg per serving, 60 capsule packets. Of course, legally you can also contact Amazon directly.

The FSA regularly issues food recall notices. It says about its service: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

“The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”

Other food recall notices issued by the FSA today, Thursday June 26, include:

Redmoor Ltd is recalling Japanese Rice Crackers because they contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.

This affects batch codes 2254770 and 2254770 for 125g pack size, and code 2254770 for 250g pack size.

Fortune Foods Ltd is recalling Laoganma Brand Black Bean Chili Sauce because it contains peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.

This affects 280g pack size under batch code 18232.
