Tennis legend Andy Murray has slammed one of the sport's most esteemed events as "s***e". The 38-year-old ex-world No1 once made a pit stop at McDonald's in his tuxedo en route to the glamorous Wimbledon champion's dinner.

His mother, Judy Murray, recounted how her son was famished after enduring a tough match and a marathon of press interviews.

Andy clinched the coveted men's title on Wimbledon's Centre Court for the first time in 2013, triumphing over the legendary Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

Judy revealed that "the players' restaurant was closed so there wasn't any food available, not just for Andy but for anyone. He was starving".

During Centre Stage, a series of stage shows across Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London where he shares frank stories from his career, Andy expressed his desire to celebrate his initial Wimbledon win with loved ones, according to the Daily Record.

However, he was obliged to go to the customary champion's dinner at the InterContinental Park Lane hotel in London, a journey of 90 minutes from the All England Club.

He arrived at 11.30pm and humorously recounted how he couldn't even sit with his parents or his now-wife Kim Sears, quipping, "Yeah, it was s***e".

Previously, Andy admitted that he could not recall much of the 2013 match and felt more "relief" than a sense of accomplishment upon winning.

The sporting icon informed the 3,000 fans in attendance that he celebrated his 2016 Wimbledon victory, which he clinched by defeating Canadian Milos Raonic in straight sets after two hours and 47 minutes, in a rather unconventional manner.

Regarding that win, his last at a Grand Slam, he revealed to the audience that he made a pit stop at a McDonald's en route to the champions' dinner, all while donned in his tuxedo.

His mother Judy chuckled as she recounted how the drive-through staff were left gobsmacked when Andy collected his order in his evening wear, and said: "They were asking, 'Is that Andy Murray? No, it can't be'."

Andy confessed that he concluded the evening in a nightclub and "had an accident" in the taxi during his journey home.

The father of four concludes his tour next Sunday at the New Wimbledon Theatre on the eve of the tournament.
