Your Samsung Galaxy phone gets an important Android update - check settings now

Google has just released Android 16, the latest version, for all its Pixel smartphones. However, this does not mean that all other Android phones will get this update soon. In fact, Samsung phones only started getting Android 15 back in April, so it is likely to be months before Galaxy owners get a notification to say Android 16 is ready to install.

Instead, Android manufacturers who are not Google have settled into their own pattern of timely software updates. These usually come in the form of monthly security patches. While not the most exciting downloads, they are vital to install when available, as they defend your phone from the newest bugs and system flaws that can be exploited by hackers.

If you don’t keep your Samsung phone’s software updated, you run the risk of falling victim to cybercrime. These cases are rare, but it’s always best to err on the side of caution.

Samsung has just released its monthly security update for June 2025, which fixes 19 new vulnerabilities in Android. According to 9to5Google, the following Galaxy phones are receiving the patch now:

  • Galaxy S25
  • Galaxy S25+
  • Galaxy S25 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24
  • Galaxy S24+
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy S23
  • Galaxy S23+
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra
  • Galaxy S21
  • Galaxy S21+
  • Galaxy S21 FE
  • Galaxy A55
  • Galaxy A54
  • Galaxy A36

The Galaxy S22 is curiously missing from this list, but it is likely those phones from 2022 will be getting the update now too, if not very soon.

Thankfully, none of the bugs are labelled ‘critical’, which means they were not yet known to be exploited in the wild by hackers. This is a reflection of Google’s advice at the beginning of the month when it released its June security bulletin. It’s then up to Android manufacturers to push these updates out to their own users.

Sometimes monthly software updates are more exciting than this. Samsung recently started pushing out One UI 7 to many of the above Galaxy phones, which is the firm’s version of Android 15.

As alluded to, Android version numbers don’t matter like they used to. Even though Google is now on Android 16 with its Pixel phones, One UI 7 brings a slew of new features to Samsung phones, including many Galaxy AI tools for those phones that support it.

I like One UI 7, but personally recommend changing eight things when you download it. Samsung’s software is very customisable, but it took it a little too far this year in my opinion.
