Rory McIlroy is preparing to make a big change in his personal life after the US Open, which will also impact his wife Erica Stoll and their young daughter. The reigning Masters champion faces a battle to make the cut at Oakmont Country Club after a poor start to the tournament. He finished the opening day on four-over-par, leaving him eight strokes adrift of early leader JJ Spaun.

McIlroy has also experienced some tough times away from the golf course over the last 12 months. Last year, he shocked the world by filing for divorce from Stoll after seven years of marriage. Just weeks later, the couple had resolved their differences and McIlroy announced they would be staying together in a dramatic turn of events.

Now, they seem happier than ever and have made plans for a major lifestyle change after the US Open. McIlroy and Stoll will move out of their luxury home in Florida and return to the UK, having spent millions on a custom-built property in Surrey.

Speaking to The Telegraph after winning the Masters, McIlroy said: "Straight after Augusta we travelled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches. It was fun to see and we could have stayed in it, but we wanted to get over to Holywood."

McIlroy will continue to use their current home in Florida as a base during the golf season. The couple moved into the mansion, which covers more than 13,000 square feet with nine bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, back in 2018.

News of their imminent relocation to the UK will come as little surprise to fans of the Netflix documentary series Full Swing.

Appearing on the show, McIlroy discussed his wife's stance with German golfer Martin Kaymer, who said: "I saw her [Stoll] at a Starbucks once and she said: 'I really don't like the sun'. I said: 'Your state's called the Sunshine State, right?'."

McIlroy then added: "If it was up to her, she wouldn't move to England straight away, but she definitely wants to spend more time there."

The couple are set to live in the Wentworth area of Surrey, a private community which includes the exclusive Wentworth Club that serves as the headquarters of the European Tour.

They will reportedly have some famous neighbours, including the likes of Ernie Els, Thomas Bjorn, Paul McGinley and former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance. Justin Rose, who McIlroy beat in a playoff to secure Masters glory, also lives nearby.
