Prevent dust settling on skirting boards with 1 cleaning tip

Content creator Dannie (@danniedw) shared a clever cleaning tip that promises to keep dust at bay for weeks at a time. The trick? Simply wipe your skirting boards using a cloth soaked in fabric softener, a common household item.

According to the video she uploaded, the softener helps to repel dust and helps prevent it from settling again. This easy method could save you time and energy, especially if dusting is a job you dread doing weekly.

Not only does this method reduce dust buildup, but it also leaves your home smelling fresh and inviting.

Having tried the hack herself, Dannie said she's noticed that a "lot less dust" settles on her skirting boards "for weeks" at a time.

She added that it has the bonus of "smelling good" too, so it's a great way to make the house smell fresh.

How Dannie cleans her skirting boards

  1. Fill up a Dishmatic sponge with fabric softener
  2. Wipe the skirting boards

One commentator did question the safety of this cleaning hack, stating: "Apparently, this is flammable."

Fabric softener can increase flammability, so it's best to keep it clear of open flames and heat sources.

Plus, it’s always wise to test a small area first to ensure it doesn't damage certain finishes.

For most people, though, bending down to wipe dust away from skirting boards – no matter if it's fabric softener or something else – is likely to lead to an achy back.

While dust tends to settle along skirting boards fairly quickly, one of the easiest methods for removing dust is to just use a hoover.

The right type of hoover with an easily detachable attachment that can reach down to the skirting boards (without you hunching your back) is probably the easiest way to remove dust.

As for further dust prevention, a regular hoovering session may just be what you need to keep dust at bay.
