Another Sky TV rival is launching in the UK soon and it is totally free to watch

Sky might have just launched its cheaper Glass Air TV, but this latest and greatest television now has even more rivals to deal with. Freely was announced last year and offers homes a way to tune into live and on-demand content. It's very similar to Sky's Glass TVs, with Freely-powered screens using the web to beam shows, sports, and movies to the big screen rather than an aerial or dish.

Both Sky Glass and Freely also offer recommendations, a full TV guide and the ability to pause live content. The main differences are that Freely doesn't feature any premium channels - such as Sky Sprts and Cinema - but it is totally free to watch. There's also a massive choice of TVs that include this platform and things are about to get even better.

It's just been confirmed that smart TVs powered by the Roku operating system will soon get Freely pre-installed. That means UK homes will be able to choose Roku-powered models made by Sharp, JVC, METZ and Polaroid.

The new partnership will bring Freely together with the Roku experience, both known for their simplicity, ease of use, and advanced features including personalised content discovery tools making it easier for viewers to find the TV shows and movies they love, including live and on demand content from Freely.

Speaking about the changes, Jonathan Thompson, CEO, Everyone TV, said: “Offering freely on the Roku operating system is a major milestone for us, as we continue to expand reach for the free streaming platform.

We’re delighted that as a huge global player, Roku has recognised the importance of easy and seamless access to public service broadcast content for UK audiences and I look forward to seeing Freely smart TVs with Roku in market this summer.”

As we mentioned before, Freely is free but not as feature-packed as Sky Glass Air or Glass Gen 2. Those who fancy one of those TVs can access more premium channels and get bonus extras, such as access to popular streaming apps. Sky screens now start just £6 per month.
