Hard boiled eggs will peel like a dream with easy 3-minute method

Peeling a hard boiled egg can be more tricky then it's actually meant to be, and no matter how many times you do it, many people are left with eggs that are quite frankly difficult to peel. This mishap, so common, has resulted in people hunting for the best way to peel their eggs, and it just so happens that a professional chef has revealed a trick that will make the lives of many home chefs much more easy.

"Over the years, I've tried about every trick to yield easy-peeling, smooth hard boiled eggs. I've tried adding salt, baking soda, and vinegar to the cooking water, to little effect," Stephanie A Ganz wrote on Simply Recipes. But then, a tip from her friend "changed everything".

"The best way to cook hard boiled eggs for easy peeling is to steam them," she wrote.

Steaming eggs is just a simple as boiling them. The first thing you want to do is prepare a lidded pot with a steamer basket and enough water to steam, which is would be just below the steamer basket.

Bring the water to a boil, and then turn off the heat and "carefully" place the eggs in a single layer in the steamer. Then cover the pot and return to boil, setting a timer for 10 minutes.

While the eggs are steaming away, go ahead and prepare an ice bath. Once the timer goess off, using a slotted spoon transfer the eggs to the water bath, and let them cool for "at least three minutes" before you start peeling.

"This step is just as important as steaming because it shocks the egg, immediately stopping the cooking process and making the eggs easier to peel," she continued.

There is no particular length of time that is needed to steam egg as it all depends on the size and perference of doneness. However, the chef opts to steam hers for 10 minutes, which gives it "the vibrant yellow yolk and smooth whites [she's] looking for".

The great thing about boiled eggs, is that once they are steamed and cooled, they can be stored and refrigerated in the shell for up to seven days.
