The man responsible for the Liverpool parade crash has been charged with seven serious offences. During a press conference on Thursday evening, the 53-year-old suspect was named as Paul Doyle.

Doyle, who is a father of three, lives in the West Derby area of Liverpool and has since been charged ahead of a court appearance on Friday.

Paul Doyle has been charged with two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

One count of dangerous driving. He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

What Merseyside Police said about the charges

Merseyside Police assistant chief constable Jenny Sims said: "As always, our thoughts remain with all of those injured and affected by this appalling incident, which took place during the Liverpool Football Club parade on Monday.

"As you have heard from our CPS colleagues, the man arrested by Merseyside Police following the incident on Water Street has now been charged with seven serious offences. I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.

"Our detectives are working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to seek the answer to all of those questions. When we are able to we will provide further information."

Ages of the injured victims revealed

Earlier on Thursday, it was revealed that the youngest victim injured in the Liverpool parade crash was nine years old, according to police. Alongside that, the oldest involved in the incident is said to have been 78, with all 79 people injured understood to have been British. Seven of those injured remain in hospital and are being treated for injuries, the police confirmed.

What eyewitnesses said about the incident

One eyewitness caught up in the incident dubbed the day one of the “worst” of his life. Speaking in an interview with Sky News, one Liverpool fan said: "The best day of my life turned into [the] worst.

“Me and my partner were flat on the roof, on the bonnet… we were just both trying to hold on for dear life with Ted next to us. And my partner went under the wheels of the car, of the front of the car, and it rolled over her leg, and I just bounced off to the side, but my boy and his pram got bounced totally in the opposite direction - about 15ft down the road."

Water Street and Dale Street, where the incident happened, were both reopened on Wednesday, with cars and pedestrians able to travel down the roads. Forensic tents and ambulances were present in the immediate aftermath of Monday’s incident.
