The emergence of moths usually takes place during the spring and summer months, meaning many people are likely to see the annoying pests quietly setting camp in homes. According to pest control experts, around 1.5 million moth infestations take place every year, and with the warmer temperatures, there are a number of spots in homes that work as the perfect breeding grounds for moths.

Professional pest control services can cost hundreds of pounds, which is not ideal, especially if the moths have already found their way into belongings, made holes in clothes, and eaten food. Prevention is key, and this cost-effective and easy trick will help keep the little pests far away from your home.

Chris Hutton, a storage expert at Adams SelfStore has revealed a "simple and highly effective solution" that will banish moths for good.

He said: "While we might find lavender's scent calming and pleasant, moths find it repellent. All you need to do is place a sachet where moths are likely to hide, wardrobes, drawers, or anywhere they can make a home. Once they catch a whiff of lavender, they'll make themselves scarce. Simple as that."

The expert recommends placing lavender sachets around homes in places such as "wardrobes, under cushions, in storage boxes, or even inside your pantry to keep moths away from your most vulnerable item" as Chris warns that although small, moths "can cause big problems".

He added: "The key to dealing with moths is staying one step ahead. With just a small investment in lavender, you can prevet damage to your belongings and enjoy a peaceful, moth-free home this spring."

Not only does lavender work as a moth repellent but it also works wonders in leaving your home smelling nice and fresh. According to Chris, a 50g bag of lavender can be bought for as little as £2 online and he recommends using only 10g per sachet which totals to just 40p per pouch.

With  temperature set to become even higher, now is the perfect time to take action and keep those moths at bay.
