Having cereal for breakfast is an everyday occurrence for many - but it can get repetitive and boring. However, there’s one item that could help you mix things up. This healthy fruit is the perfect affordable way to add some extra flavour to your breakfast. Another benefit is that it won’t get soggy in your cereal, but it will instead add a delicious crunch.

Apples are the perfect addition to breakfast cereal and if you chop them up into small cubes or even thin longer strands, they’ll add a delicious extra element to your morning meal. Tasting Table says: “Apples work particularly well in cereal because they'll hold their shape and won't get soggy, even if you let them hang out in the milk for several minutes.”

Usually, cereal-lovers enjoy adding berries to their bowl but this can be an expensive addition to keep up.

While strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries add a sweet taste to your breakfast, they can work out to be quite pricey. If you’re looking for a more affordable alternative, apples could be just that.

Tasty Table says: “Fruit is an ideal addition to any bowl of cereal, and most of the time, you're going to see bowls topped with strawberries or bananas.

“But these aren't the only fruits that can add some juiciness to your breakfast. If you want to switch things up and go for another type of fruit, try chopping up an apple and adding it to your bowl.”

It adds that you can achieve a crunchy texture in addition to the juiciness of the apple which pairs well with cereals.

If you’re thinking of giving this a go, make sure that when you're chopping up your apple, you break the fruit into relatively small bites.

You don't want to chew huge hunks of apple with your cereal and it might not taste as good if you’re not cutting your apple in a way where it will blend in with the cereal.

In addition, you can add a squeeze of honey which will enhance the sweetness of your breakfast.

Or, you may even want to add a sprinkle of cinnamon which often pairs well with apple.

If you give this breakfast a go, you might not go back to having cereal without apple. Even though it’s an easy addition, it's an innovative combination that can elevate your meal.
