If you have a coffee every morning, there’s an unexpected ingredient you could add to it to give your body a boost at the start of the day. Most people start their day off with a cup or two of coffee for some much-needed extra energy but it’s unlikely you’re adding this one spice to your cup.

Starting your day off cinnamon in your coffee can help you feel energised, it is said to balance insulin levels and help with digestion, says Coffee Deets. A cinnamon-infused cup of coffee most mornings can be created by adding a bit of coconut milk (or other milk) to your mug and sprinkling cinnamon on top.

Not only will it help you feel great but it will enhance flavour. Cinnamon adds a sweet and spicy kick to coffee, improving its overall taste.

It is also rich in antioxidants which help protect the body against damage.

Easy to Espresso says: "Adding cinnamon might just be the game-changer you need. Beyond its rich history and cultural roots, cinnamon brings a unique blend of health benefits and flavor enhancements to your cup."

There’s lots of different methods for adding the spice into your drink.

One way is to brew your coffee with cinnamon sticks, this can be done by simply adding a small piece of a cinnamon stick to your coffee grounds before brewing.

This method is the best one to try if you want to gently infuse your coffee without overpowering it.

Another way is to add cinnamon powder directly into your drink.

Easy To Espresso adds: "If you’re after a more intense flavor, sprinkle cinnamon powder over your coffee grounds. Start with a pinch and adjust to taste. Beware of adding it to brewed coffee though, as it can clump and float rather than dissolve."

Cinnamon is a common spice to add to warm drinks, from mulled wine to chai teas or even hot chocolates.

While it may seem like more of a wintery drink, there’s nothing to stop you from spicing up your morning coffee and adding some cinnamon in for a change to your breakfast.

If you’re hoping to get an extra bit of energy in the morning while also upgrading your coffee making it sweeter and smokier, this is the perfect way to give it a go.
