If you find yourself battling with dusty floors and skirting boards in your home just days after a thorough clean, you’re in need of a straightforward method to keep it from accumulating further. Floors and skirting boards, prone to static electricity, are often the worst offenders when it comes to attracting dust.

Dust is made up of fine particles collected by dirt, pollen, skin cells, smoke, pets, mould and mildew, fabric fibres, and more. What’s even more disturbing is that the average amount of dust that collects in the home each year is approximately 40 pounds. Luckily, cleaning gurus on Facebook have come forward sharing their go-to dust repellent methods, which involve using one specific item.

McGough Cleaning Services said: “Believe it or not, used dryer sheets are excellent dust magnets.”

Dryer sheets don’t need to be fresh to use, simply keep them behind after doing laundry and use them to “dust surfaces like baseboards, floors, shelves, blinds, and even electronics”.

The experts claimed: “The anti-static properties help repel dust, keeping surfaces cleaner for twice as long.

“Dryer sheets have a slightly waxy texture that grabs dust and holds onto it. This prevents dust from immediately resettling. It also leaves a light, pleasant fragrance behind.”

The team at Lily’s Cleaning Services are also all for using tumble dryer sheets to prevent dust from settling around the home.

They said: “Did you know a simple dryer sheet can make your baseboards and floors dust-free and help repel dust?

“Dryer sheets pick up dust and leave a protective layer that helps repel future dust buildup.”

What’s more, not only do dryer sheets excel at deterring dust, but they also give floors and skirting boards a bit of a polish, ensuring your home appears spick and span with minimal exertion.

To start, vacuum your wooden floors and the areas near the skirting boards as you normally would.

Next, gently wipe a dryer sheet on the skirting boards or, if practical, attach a dryer sheet to a microfiber mop to clean your wooden floor, or you can do it by hand.

Not only will this prevent dust from accumulating on the wooden surface, but it will also reduce the buildup of other common debris found on floors.

The most effective way to repel dust is to incorporate dryer sheets into your regular cleaning routine. Run the sheets across floors and skirting boards at least once a week to maintain cleanliness.
