Martin Brundle made an unfortunate error during his grid walk at the Miami Grand Prix, congratulating Conor Benn on a boxing victory against Chris Eubank Jr that never happened. Benn's fight went the full 12 rounds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April, but despite the 28-year-old's best efforts, the judges unanimously agreed on a 116-112 scorecard in favour of Eubank Jr.

This was clearly news to Brundle, who approached the boxing icon during his grid walk ahead of the Miami GP. “Conor, Martin Brundle, Sky F1," the co-commentator said, introducing himself. "Wow, what a boxing match that was, congratulations!”

Benn took the mistake in his stride, replying: “Thank you, I appreciate that. Although it was a great fight, I didn’t get the W which I came for, so hopefully we’ll run it back in September and I can make amends.” Asked if he was setting up a rematch with Eubank Jr, he confirmed: "Ah, most definitely."

Fortunately for Brundle, the conversation moved on from the fight. The Brit was asked if he had been on the grid before. "This is my first time here," he explained. "It's absolutely amazing, what an event, what an occasion. I see why loads of people turn up."

On a star-studded grid, Brundle also enjoyed conversations with Jerry Bruckheimer, who has spearheaded the upcoming F1 movie, and grid walk regular Sir Jackie Stewart, whom he roped into securing an interview with White Lotus star Lisa.

Brundle also spoke with British comedian Jack Whitehall, who earned rave reviews with his hosting duties at the F1 75 season launch event in London.

"I have been apologising to all the drivers and team principals for F1 75," Whitehall told Brundle, "Me and James Vowles, though, are now lifelong friends. He invited me into the Williams garage. We had some espresso martinis together. I really hope he gets some points today. What a man! I'm so happy Williams can have a great weekend here in Miami."

Brundle also stumbled across Gordon Ramsay, who filmed a cinematic for Sky Sports F1 to set the scene for the Grand Prix. "I think Oscar [Piastri] has got this one," he said. "Lando's looking strong, Max [Verstappen] is back in front. Rain's expected."
