The fire started on Thursday afternoon near Oldham Road, Ripponden, just after midday. Footage showed smoke billowing over the major road as 18 fire crews were required to tackle the fire. Emergency services remained there overnight, and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) confirmed seven units remain at the moor to fight the blaze on Friday morning (May 2).
