With Easter just around the corner, families who celebrate will be making plans with their nearest and dearest for the occasion, including the Royal Family. Each year, the royals gather to attend a special Easter Sunday service in St George’s Chapel on the Windsor Castle estate. The family then enjoy a traditional lunch together, before taking part in a fun Easter egg hunt.

Although Prince Harry - who quit royal life with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020 - has not spoken much about what Easter was like with his royal relatives, one expert believes the duke will “keenly” feel for his children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, who do not take part in the tradition. This is because the family live across the pond in America for the past five years.

Speaking about how the Duke of Sussex is likely to feel around Easter time, royal expert and author Tom Quinn said previously: “The Royal Family traditionally meet on Easter Sunday at Windsor for a service in St George’s Chapel, followed by a brief walkabout and then a very traditional lunch of roast lamb.

"Harry always enjoyed this tradition because he got to meet an adoring public for a short period. But what’s really going to upset Harry this year is that his children will miss out on the Easter egg hunt that takes place afterwards."

The tradition of the egg hunt dates back to Queen Victoria and brings the family together. The royal author said Harry will “keenly” miss the tradition and being involved in it.

While the prince, 40, has not often spoken about the Royal Family’s Easter tradition, he did once confirm that there are some royal traditions for other festivities, such as Christmas, that he now does with his own family in California.

One of these is present-giving on Christmas Eve - a tradition that dates back to the Royal Family’s German heritage.

Writing about their first Christmas in the US in 2020, Harry wrote in his memoir Spare: "It was Christmas Eve. We FaceTimed with several friends, including a few in Britain.

"We watched Archie running around the tree. And we opened presents. Keeping to the Windsor family tradition."

Prince Harry has not spent Christmas or Easter with the Royal Family since quitting his royal duties five years ago.
