The Repair Shop favourite Will Kirk has confirmed gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh contacted him when he was "desperately struggling" with his lawn. The antiques restoration specialist resides in a Surrey countryside home alongside wife Polly, along with their son and daughter – but he was struggling with his "sanctuary".

The 40-year-old relocated to rural surroundings after confessing he had spent "39 years in London". He believed the English capital represented "where everything was" but feels that having children "changes your priority".

Despite settling into the home more than a year ago, Will admitted he has been experiencing difficulties in the garden.

Speaking to House Beautiful, he characterised his outdoor space as a "work in progress".

He explained: "I've recently been outside desperately trying to breathe some life into the grass, which is really dry and dusty.

"One of my neighbours' plants keeps growing over the fence and strangling my roses, so I'm out there every week cutting them back. Alan Titchmarsh lives nearby and offered to come and take a look, but I told him I'd get it to a decent level first, then he can advise me on flowers and plants."

Will had previously discussed his garden with Alan.

During Love Your Weekend earlier this year, he admitted he had made it a "priority" above all else at the Victorian home. He explained his London flat merely had a balcony featuring "some dying plants".

However, Will disclosed that Polly had alternative plans, preferring to transform the interior of their property to resemble their ideal home initially.

He remarked: "My wife was very firm with, 'Let's start with the inside of the house first before we paint the front door and start doing the gardening,' but I went straight to the garden."

Will revealed the previous occupants had installed a hot tub in the garden, which left a "big brown patch" across his lawn.

Whilst he was battling to restore his grass, he confessed to developing an enthusiasm for horticulture.

Speaking to Alan, he commented: "I've been doing a lot of gardening. I've been looking online at a lot of your videos on how to sow seeds and things like that. You make it look very easy!"
