What happens if the US government shuts down?
A US government shutdown is due to take effect within hours, unless Republicans and Democrats can settle their differences and agree to extend funding. If they can't, then it would be the first federal shutdown for nearly seven years. But what would it mean for government workers and which services could be affected?
