Several schools were forced into lockdown this afternoon following reports of a man wandering around with an axe.

Middlefield Community Primary School on Alder Wood Avenue in Speke, Merseyside, was among those affected by the incident, according to multiple reports.

Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO that officers were dispatched to Central Way in Speke at approximately 2.45pm on Tuesday, 30 September, after receiving a report about a man armed with an axe. The police verified that several schools in the area had indeed gone into lockdown as a precautionary measure.

However, subsequent reports from local children clarified that the man was merely chopping down a tree on Oldbridge Road.

No additional sightings have been reported since, and all schools have now resumed normal operations.

When approached for comment, a staff member at Middlefield Primary refuted claims of a lockdown, dismissing them as mere rumours, reports Livepool ECHO.
