Outlander creator Diana Gabaldon has finally addressed the wild theories swirling around that mysterious voice featured in the season eight teaser trailer, which dropped recently and sent fans into overdrive with speculation, reports the Daily Record.

After posting the season eight preview on her Facebook page, countless viewers chimed in with their thoughts about the enigmatic voice at the conclusion who uttered "Mrs Fraser".

One devoted fan theorised: "Claire is seeing Brianna and Roger and the children. The English voice has nothing to do with this scene.

"It was an editing choice and doesn't fit the scene at all and once again done to cause drama and speculation. Which is exactly what is happening!"

Gabaldon delivered a blunt three-word response beneath: "You got it."

She replied to another devotee, who had penned: "Oh my. I'm anxious for this season to unfold and yet afraid of where they are going with it.

"I have loved watching this series but I love the books more and hope their ending stays true to the intent of books. I hope they don't make up things to fit their narrative from BOMB. Leary of whose voice that is at the end of this clip."

Gabaldon informed the supporter: "That voice hasn't got anything to do with the clip-it's just stuck in as a teaser. (Or so I think...).

"As for Season 8 , it's coming primarily from Book 9, GO TELL THE BEES THAT I AM GONE.

"I didn't give them any of the Book 10 stuff (because there's way more in any one book than they need to fill a season). As for BOMB, they're mostly making it up."

Numerous fans were convinced the voice belonged to Claire Fraser's (portrayed by Caitríona Balfe) father Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).

Others speculated it could be William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) or Lord John Grey (David Berry).

Some viewers also thought the scene was actually the "hello, the house" sequence from the Outlander books when Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) utters this phrase following their return to the past and Fraser's Ridge.

Nevertheless, Gabaldon's revelation indicates that these assumptions may be incorrect and it's simply a case of skilful editing.

Alongside incorporating content from Gabaldon's ninth book, the programme will be departing from the source material with an alternative timeline exploring what might have occurred if Faith Fraser had been rescued by Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon).

The eighth series will be the final instalment and resolve all remaining storylines in the programme.

Actress Sophie Skelton previously revealed she and co-star Balfe experienced different phases of mourning whilst filming the concluding series.
