Prime Video subscribers who are fans of period dramas and true crime should not miss this captivating film, after others have watched a "masterpiece" series and another costume piece hailed a "triumph", reports the Mirror.

First released in 2005, the biographical drama has been lauded for its compelling lead performance and gripping narrative.

The film has received high praise on IMDb, with one viewer awarding it a perfect score and writing: "Beautifully told, masterfully performed, harrowing, amusing, cruel, moving. A sensational achievement. I sat there disturbed and transfixed. Witnessing the impossible."

Another glowing review titled "Beautiful film about human ugliness" compared the film to Harper Lee's classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, describing it as "excellent". The reviewer reflected on the film's impact, stating: "it makes you think about how we, personally and as a society, attempt to brush under the rug the disturbing events that force, if not indeed blast, their way into our lives".

A third viewer was equally effusive, describing the film as "just about perfect". They explained: "It's very rare that I watch a film that truly mesmerizes [sic] me. It's even rarer for me to write a review that doesn't have me reaching for the thesaurus to find synonyms for "cliché.

"I often feel that everything I watch is just a re-hashing of something else (possibly a sign of encroaching middle age? ). But I truly thought this was one of the best films, and one of the most original, that I've seen in a long time."

Another reviewer described it as: "Morbidly fascinating, impeccably-acted film" and continued to call it a "calculating, well-observed but chilly" picture.

Capote served as a biographical drama chronicling American author Truman Capote, with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman delivering a masterful performance in the leading role.

The film depicts Capote's journey whilst penning his acclaimed non-fiction work In Cold Blood, which documented the brutal 1959 slayings of the Clutter family in Kansas.

The movie itself drew inspiration from Gerald Clarke's 1988 biography bearing the same title.

The writer journeyed to Kansas to report on the murders alongside his childhood companion Nelle Harper Lee (portrayed by Catherine Keener).

Yet, throughout his investigation and preparation for the book, Capote develops an unusual bond with one of the murderers.

The production earned multiple Academy Award nominations, including recognition for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Hoffman claimed the Best Actor trophy for his portrayal of Capote, earning widespread acclaim from critics.

One viewer commented: "Phillip Seymour Hoffman was the kind of actor who, because of his physical appearance and demeanor [sic], rarely was given the opportunity to take on a title role. Here, at last, was a stand out exception to that rule!

"In Capote, Hoffman was able to show us his true artistic ability. The Result: A well- deserved Oscar as best actor."

One fan praised the actor as "terrific", explaining: "Hoffman mimics Capote's posture, voice, facial expressions, and overall mannerisms quite well. It's a great impersonation.

"But, towards the film's end when Capote has to say goodbye for the last time, Hoffman's portrayal of Capote's grief and helplessness goes well beyond parody. It's an example of genuine acting ability."

Another viewer posted on IMDb: "See this movie for Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance. It is one of the greatest in cinematic history. We remember Capote. He is Capote!"
