Lefty lawyers bizarrely claimed Labour is being too tough on migrants as they demanded new measures to make Britain like "utopia" for asylum seekers.

Zoe Bantleman and Alison Bamber slammed Sir Keir Starmer’s “one-in-one-out” deal with Emmanuel Macron, comparing it to the Rwanda scheme.

And they are calling for the Home Office to water down its proposals to stop Channel migrant crossings by decriminalising arrivals.

Ms Bantleman and Ms Bamber said Britain needs to “think about how we make this place more like utopia”.

Around 33,000 migrants have crossed the Channel so far this year, as smugglers ramp up their operations with bigger boats.

A record 125 people were discovered in a single vessel on Saturday.

One Labour party member, during a question and answer session, even suggested that Labour should abolish its border security operations and buy up land, such as an island, and create a new city for migrants who come to the UK.

Zoe Bantleman, Legal Director at the Immigration Law Practitioners Association, said: “It sounds a bit like utopia, which was of course a place of happiness, but it was also not a place.

“I think we need to think about how we make this place more like utopia.

“The 1999 act needs to be amended. People who are arriving here to seek asylum are not criminals. There is still time… with the Border, Asylum and Immigration Bill and I’m hoping there is progress to be made there.”

Alison Bamber, CEO of the Bamber Foundation, added: “What we are seeing is a huge number of people who are being detained and face being removed to France and can’t even get access to legal representation, to request more time to understand whether they have a basis to stay.

“I would rather we create safe and legal routes.”
