A beloved EastEnders actor is reportedly abandoning the entertainment industry to relocate to India.

Bobby Brazier, son of the late Jade Goody and Jeff Brazier, shot to fame playing Freddie Slater in the BBC soap from 2022.

His portrayal even secured him a National Television Award.

The star appeared as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing's 21st series in 2023, reaching the final as runner-up.

He also claimed a National Film Award UK for his work in Curfew, reports The Mirror.

Yet despite achieving considerable success in entertainment, reports suggest the actor has chosen to step away and dedicate himself to Hare Krishna, a branch of Hinduism.

Sources indicate the star intends to reside in an Indian commune after completing his final appearances as Freddie on the long-running drama.

An insider told The Sun: "Bobby is really excited and happy about his move to India. He's been telling everyone about it and preaching to them about why he is devoted to Hare Krishna.

"He's such a nice young man, his heart is in the right place, but some people are surprised that he's walking away from his career at a time when he's on such a high with it."

The source further revealed the performer plans to remain there for a minimum of twelve months and may 'resume' his acting pursuits upon his return.

However, despite the reports, Bobby or his representatives have yet to formally confirm any plans for the move.

The 22 year old actor, who joined EastEnders in 2022, quickly became a fan favourite thanks to his character Freddie's dramatic storylines, which included uncovering disturbing truths about his biological father and exploring a potential romance with Anna Knight.

In June, it was announced that Bobby would be leaving the show later this year, and he recently opened up about his future plans after his departure from Albert Square.

At the National Film Awards, where he bagged an award for his work on the new Paramount+ series Curfew, Bobby confessed that his future plans are still up in the air.

Speaking to OK! Magazine: he said: "I don't know, I guess that's how it really goes and how it works in this industry. You never really know what's next until you go for it.

"But yeah, I'd like to play a variety of different roles so I can work out what I like, what I'm good at and what I need to work on."

While EastEnders has confirmed Bobby's impending exit, the soap's bosses were eager to continue their collaboration with the actor. A spokesperson for the soap previously stated: "We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future."
