Katy Perry’s 2025 has been packed with headlines – and not always the good kind. She’s locked in a bitter court fight over a $15 million (£11.7 million) mansion, suffered a terrifying stage mishap on her world tour, and split from fiancé Orlando Bloom after nearly a decade together. The singer has found herself making front pages for legal filings as much as chart hits, with her Montecito property dispute turning nastier by the month.
On the road, the Firework hitmaker's high-energy stage routines have left her bruised and scraped – and at one point nearly sent her crashing to the ground. Away from the spotlight, Katy, 40, and Orlando, 48, have called time on their long-running relationship, insisting they’ll put their daughter Daisy first. From courtrooms to concert arenas to co-parenting, Katy’s year has been as unpredictable as any chart-topper she’s ever released. As the star is gearing up her big day in court, let’s take a look at how it’s all unfolded so far.
The former American Idol judge is still battling 85-year-old veteran Carl Westcott over his Montecito home. Carl says he wasn’t of “sound mind” when he agreed to sell in 2020, citing Huntington’s and dementia.
In December 2023 a judge ruled he was “coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational” – and Katy kept the house. But she’s now countersuing for around $5.54 million (£4.3 million), claiming $3.25 million (£2.5 million) in lost rent and $2.29 million (£1.8 million) in damage repairs.
The property is currently rented by Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger, prompting questions over her “uninhabitable” claims.
Carl’s son Chart has slammed the star, telling the NYPost: “She has chosen to fight a dying man in court, all for money,” and branding her “a giant spoiled brat".
The next court date is set for Thursday (August 21), with Carl’s side hoping to question Chris. Orlando was excused from testifying after a recent ruling, but the fight shows no sign of ending quietly.
On her Lifetimes Tour, Grammy nominee Katy has had more than just vocal highs to deal with. In San Francisco, a flying prop malfunction left her clinging on mid-air before she steadied herself and carried on performing.
She later posted photos of her “brutally scraped knees” after a failed “slide on my knees” move, texting a friend: “It was a slide on my knees mome[nt] that usually makes them go ahhh and it just made me go arghh,” prompting the reply: “And just like that she’s in her 40s.”
The physical knocks haven’t been her only mid-show drama. In Detroit, young fan McKenna fainted onstage during a meet-and-greet moment.
Katy immediately stopped the show, crouched by her, and told the crowd: “McKenna’s doing great, by the way.”
Orlando Bloom split after nearly a decade
In July, Katy and British actor Orlando confirmed they’d ended their engagement and long-term relationship. The pair, have been together since 2016 and engaged since 2019, issued a joint statement saying they would “continue to raise their daughter Daisy Dove with love, stability and mutual respect.”
Sources claimed the breakup was “a long time coming” amid Katy’s relentless touring schedule and no sign of wedding plans.
A statement from the couple’s reps read: "Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.
"They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter [Daisy Dove, 4½] with love, stability, and mutual respect."
Since the split, Orlando has been seen enjoying beach time with Daisy and his dog, while Katy’s kept busy on the road.
The former couple have stressed they remain on good terms and will focus on co-parenting, even holidaying together with Orlando’s son Flynn, who he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
