The BBC has released a sneak peek of upcoming TV series Riot Women, which features a star-studded cast with Downton Abbey and Beyond Paradise actors.
The six-part drama is written by award-winning writer Sally Wainwright, who has worked on shows such as Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack, and is due to be released later this year on BBC One, iPlayer and BritBox.
Riot Women, set and filmed in Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, focuses on five women who set up a punk rock band in an unexpected twist. The series features original songs from the band ARXX.
"A teacher, a police officer, a pub landlady, a midwife, and a shoplifting freeloader: five menopausal women form a punk rock band to take part in a local talent contest, and suddenly find they have a lot more to shout about than they ever imagined.
"As they become closer, the teacher, Beth, and freeloader, Kitty, discover a surprising, heartbreaking connection," the BBC's description of Riot Women reads.
Joanna Scanlan, star of The Thick of It, plays Beth, Serpent Queen star Rosalie Craig portrays Kitty, Sexy Beast's Tamsin Greig is Holly, while Lorraine Ashbourne, star of Sherwood, plays Jess and Amelisa Bullmore, known for starring in The Buccaneers, takes on the role of Yvonne.
Beth, Kitty, Holly, Jess and Yvonne make up the Riot Women band, while the group's backing singers, Nisha, Kam and Miranda are portrayed by Taj Atwal, Chandeep Uppal and Macy Seelochan.
Also appearing in the series is The Sixth Commandment's Anne Reid, Downton Abbey star Sue Johnston, Beyond Paradise's Peter Davison, Outnumbered actress Claire Skinner, Merlin's Angel Coulby and White Lines star Jonny Green.
Ellise Chappell, Tony Hirst, Shannon Lavelle, Mark Bazeley, Amit Shah, Rick Warden, Ben Batt and Natalia Tena also feature, alongside Melanie La Barrie, Oliver Huntingdon, Richard Fleeshman, Olwen May, Kevin Doyle, Nicholas Gleaves and Thomas Flynn.
Riot Women is made up of six hour-long episodes and is produced by Drama Republic, with Sally Wainwright being the creator, writer and lead director.
Jessica Taylor, who worked on Happy Valley and Fool Me One, is the producer, while Roanna Benn, who worked on Doctor Foster, is the executive producer for Drama Republic while Tanya Qureshi takes on the role for the BBC, along with Robert Schildhouse and Jess O'Riordan for BritBox.
BritBix will air the series in the US and Canada, while Mediawan Rights will distribute the series internationally in collaboration with Entourage Ventures.
Riot Women will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One this October.
