The woman who claims to be the secret daughter of Freddie Mercury has spoken out just weeks in advance of the publication of a book focusing on their relationship as the star's former lover gets set to question the legitimacy of her story. The world was stunned when news broke that the famously flamboyant frontman of Queen seemingly had a secret child who had spoken to author Lesley-Ann Jones for her upcoming tome. Known only as B, the woman says she mourned her "dad's death" when she was just 15 and explains she didn't want to share him with the world.

Following the revelation that Freddie's former lover, Mary Austin, who inherited the bulk of his fortune and is widely regarded as the love of his life, is set to question her existence in a newspaper interview this weekend, B says she is "devastated" which is why she is speaking out. "I had to become an adult without him, and live all the structuring moments and events without his support. I am devastated by Mary Austin's alleged response," she said.

"For 34 years, the truth of Freddie's life has been distorted, twisted and rewritten, but she said nothing - with the exception of her comment about the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, which she called 'artistic licence'.

"Here, she has not yet read the book, yet she apparently makes this statement. I don't understand why," she told MailOnline.

Mary's alleged remarks are all the more intriguing as the book Love, Freddie, which is out on what would have been the icon's birthday, September 5, claims his inner circle, including Mary, knew about the child.

It claims B was unintentionally conceived during an affair with the wife of a close friend in 1976. Now 48, she resides in Europe, working in the medical field and is also a mother herself, making Freddie a grandfather posthumously.

The opening chapter of the book features is a handwritten letter from B in which she explains her connection to the We Are the champions singer.

"Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life," it says

"He adored me and was devoted to me. The circumstances of my birth may seem, by most people's standards, unusual and even outrageous. That should come as no surprise. It never detracted from his commitment to love and look after me. He cherished me like a treasured possession."

Lesley-Ann, who has also written biographies of other rockers including John Lennon, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones, insisted she believes the daughter's story completely, as she has not asked for money or "recognition".
