If, like me, you don't have the time or spare cash for a weekly salon blow-dry, finding a hair tool that can replicate the look with relative ease at home is a worthy investment. As someone with a chin-length bob, I've tried a few different hot brushes over the years, but one I've heard rave reviews about is the Shark SmoothStyle Heated Brush.

According to shoppers on Amazon who've tested the hair tool, it gives "salon-quality results at home." Though the hot brush usually retails for £99.99, right now, Amazon has reduced it by 51% to just £49.49. I did some research, and according to the Amazon price tracking website camelcamelcamel, this is the lowest price the hot brush has ever been. However, Amazon has said the deal is only available for "a limited time", so it might not be around for long. 

The offer also appears to be the lowest available online at the moment, beating Shark’s own sale price of £69.99, as well as the £79.99 listings at Boots and LookFantastic. 

The multi-tasking hair tool combines the functionality of a blow dryer and a hot brush, meaning you can dry your hair and style it at the same time. Some hot brushes are only designed to be used on dry locks, but the SmoothStyle is designed for both wet and dry styling. Whereas you would need to hold a hairdryer in one hand and a brush in the other to get smooth tresses, Shark's one tool does the job. 

The SmoothStyle's round brush head uses two types of bristles that work together to style the hair. 

There is a Wet Hair Mode, which has three temperature settings. Shark says it will "gently" dry and add volume to freshly washed hair. Once hair is completely dry, twist the brush to its 'Dry Hair' mode to turn off the air and activate the heated ceramic-coated plates (the pink teeth you can see on either side). These heat up to 215 °C and can be used to smooth out any kinks, add a wave or curl, or flick out ends.

One shopper who tried the tool said it does all of these things: “This is a brilliant all-in-one tool. The hot air function dries my hair quickly without leaving it frizzy, and the smoothing comb makes such a difference to my layers. I’ve had loads of compliments, and my hair feels softer and shinier after using it.”

Shark claims the tool is suitable for all hair types and textures. The ceramic-coated comb works at lower heat levels than traditional straighteners, which aims to reduce hair damage.  According to some reviews, it's good two or three days after washing your hair, as it can smooth out creases and kinks without needing a full wash and blow dry.

Another customer said: "I use it on damp hair, and it gives me volume at the roots and smoothness through the lengths. It’s also great for touch-ups between washes. I haven’t picked up my straighteners in weeks."

With 400 Amazon reviews, the SmoothStyle has an average rating of 4.2 out of five. However, not all feedback has been glowing. A number of users have noted that the tool is heavier than expected, which may be a downside for those with limited arm strength or mobility. One customer wrote: “Although it gave my hair a lovely finish, I found it far too heavy to hold comfortably for more than a few minutes. I ended up returning it, which is a shame because it does work well otherwise.”

Another pointed out: “It gets very hot around the smoothing comb. I’d recommend using a heat-resistant glove if you’re worried about getting too close to the barrel.”
