GMB's Narinder Kaur referenced rumours that King Charles recently met son Prince Harry's senior aides in the hope of a reconciliation – but was quickly rebuffed by X followers when she claimed there was "no future" in the monarchy without the pair. She wrote to 54,000 fans: "King Charles and Prince Harry's senior aides have held a secret peace summit.

"The RF [Royal Family] have finally realised the establishment desperately need Harry and Meghan. There is no future in the monarchy as far as the younger generation are concerned without H&M – they bring relevance and relatablility." One viewer swiftly and bluntly replied: "I love H&M, but let's be honest here, they don't actually bring anything."

However, the viewer also pointed out that one day the King's successor would be crowned, adding that if he could first reunite Harry with estranged brother William, then he would "have some chance of stopping the monarchy being a laughing stock".

A second viewer warned: "Harry and Meghan will never be working royals again and if you believe that you are deluded."

Meanwhile, a third mocked Kaur's claims that super-rich Harry, whose net worth has doubled since leaving the UK to an estimated $60million (£44million), could be regarded as "relatable".

"As if – how can anyone young relate to two millionaires who ditched their family? What’s the connection? You live in a different world to folks I know," the follower exclaimed.

Others argued that the meeting King Charles had could have been related to UK security plans, to Harry and Meghan's titles possibly being revoked, or to any other potential royal business, with no formal comment made by the Royal Family as yet.

However, the Daily Mail claimed on Saturday that the meeting, held at a private members' club in London, represented the strongest sign yet that "both sides want to resolve [the] bitter family feud".

Prince Harry had previously suggested during his interview with the BBC that he would "love to" reconcile with his father, but that Charles "wouldn't talk" to him anymore.

However, followers warned that Harry would "never be trusted again" by senior royals, pointing out his history of media interviews about the family and suggesting: "Two minutes with the King and they will be selling their story or getting on chat shows to cash in."
