When heading off to the states, you may find yourself opting for big city getaways, visiting New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Even when opting for Florida, tourists often stick to visiting Disney World and other theme parks. But there's plenty you'll be missing out on if you do this.
Travel experts are recommending that those who travel to Florida add the city of Sarasota to their itinerary. Located at the Southern end of the Tampa Bay area, Sarasota is less than a two-hour drive from Disney World, so you'll still be able to visit the happiest place on Earth if you choose to stay in the city itself.
Taking to Instagram, budget holiday finders Holiday Pirates have highlighted Sarasota as a potential getaway, pointing out that with direct flights from the UK, it could potentially work out cheaper than a holiday to Spain.
The experts wrote: "Most Brits don’t run to this spot for their holiday, but here’s why you should. Save this for your next holiday inspo, and grab a 7-night holiday with direct BA flights for cheaper than what a week in Spain could cost you (£559pp).
"Planning to visit Epic Universe? Add Sarasota to your Florida itinerary for the perfect relaxing beach break after the chaos of the parks. We’ve also nabbed you a crazy price on a 10-night twin-centre from £899 with hotels and flights."
Alongside being a relatively budget-friendly option for those hoping to jet off to the US, Sarasota is also home to the country's 'best beach.'
Siesta Beach was crowned the best beach in the US by Tripadvisor and is also the fourth best beach worldwide. With stunning white sands and clear blue seas, it's clear why.
Sarasota is a great year-round destination with temperatures reaching 28°C even in the colder winter months. The city also receives an estimated 250 hours of sunshine a year.
Visitors to Siesta Beach have left rave reviews on Tripadvisor, with one writing: "This is one of the most beautiful beaches we have been to. The white powdery sand that stays cool on your feet and the pristine clear water are the reasons why this beach is ranked number one in the US. I would highly recommend a trip here."
Another added: "Siesta Key is one of the best beaches I’ve ever visited and had the opportunity to enjoy a couple of weeks strolling, swimming, watching dolphins, and soaking up the sun.
"The white powdery sand that seems to stretch for miles. The only downside is that the popularity creates a lot of traffic and a lack of open parking spaces."
And a third simply wrote: "Wonderful place. Very wide and extensive beaches with fine sand, transparent, warm and calm waters. Highly recommended."
