BBC Radio star Vicky Carter has been flooded with support after announcing her departure from her role, which has seen her work across BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, and BBC Asian Network. The broadcaster, who began her BBC career as a Freelance Producer/Assistant Producer for BBC Essex in 2018, took to Instagram to share the news. On Tuesday (April 14), she took to Instagram, sharing a carousel of images of herself at work, along with a colourful bunch of flowers that seemed to be a leaving gift from colleagues.
She captioned the snaps: "Today was my last day as a Senior Journalist Reporter for @bbcradio1 @bbc1xtra @bbcasiannetwork Newsbeat! What an adventure the last 9 months have been! I’ve been overseeing and editing news in a live radio environment on the weekend - for 3 radio stations and for an audience of 8 million people, planning for later output, managing reporters, and occasionally voicing pieces for news (the last two weren’t new to me!)
It’s meant my work schedule for three days a week has been 5am alarm, 2 hour commute door to door, 10 hour day and an overnight stay, 5am alarm, 10 hour day and a 2 hour commute back, 5:30 alarm and 10 hour day - as I say to the team on the weekends - it is a marathon not a sprint.
"I’m incredibly proud to have been in charge of such a prestigious and impressive news beast that is Newsbeat when huge global events occurred like the Iran war, Iranian protests, Venezuela, Bondi shooting - the list goes on.
"I’m also proud to have secured Newsbeat bylines across the BBC for the team and I, and pushed their journalism to other outlets. But I miss broadcasting - so I’m very excited for my new chapter," she concluded her message.
Since she first began working for the BBC Vicky has held a variety of roles. She has worked for Radio 4 and 5Live as well as BBC Radio Guernsey.
She has also worked as an Investigative Journalist for File on 4 Investigates with some of her reports adapted for other outlets such as BBC News online, the BBC News TV Channel, The One Show, BBC World Service, and local radio stations.
Following her post fans and colleagues were quick to share their support taking to the comments to share their thoughts. "Well done. So proud of you! What a great experience for national broadcasting. xxxx," one wrote.
Another posted a series of applause emojis and commented: "Cant wait to see what you do next!!" A third chimed in: "Exciting adventures await! Wishing you every success hon. xx"
A fourth shared: "Been so great to work with you Vicky, all the best with everything!!" Meanwhile fifth exclaimed: " Absolute powerhouse," followed by a cheering and a heart emoji.
